Grazia: Meet Noemie Jouas, The Fashion Designer Behind Tiktok’s Belt Dress

Joy is at the heart of French-Japanese fashion designer Noemie Jouas’s label, Noé, and it’s mirrored in the distinctive ruffles, vibrant colours and frothy, capacious silhouettes that form the foundation of the brand. The hallmark characteristics of the loose-fitting dresses she shares on Tiktok point to an approach towards fashion that is uniquely Jouas’s own, and are far from the sultry opulence that underscores Tiktok’s fur coat-clad “mob wife” and “office siren” trends. She describes her designs and style as “flirty”, “fun” and “free”, emotions derived from the way she feels in her dresses. To Jouas, loose fits can be just as flattering as fitted ones…

Today we’d like to introduce you to Noemie Jouas

Hi Noemie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?

My name is Noemie, I started teaching myself how to sew almost 10 years ago and I am now a full time fashion designer and content creator! Being creative has always been a big part of my life, and sewing was always my favorite way of expressing that creativity. After graduating from university with a degree in Business Management, and having taken classes at a fashion school, I decided to pursue a career in fashion design and grow my brand, Noé Dresses.

 

Met Museum, teen vogue, marie claire

In May of 2020, Noemie took part in Vogue’s #MetGalaChallenge on Instagram. Her recreation of Giambatissta Valli’s dress that Lana Condor wore to the 2019 Met Gala was featured by The MET Museum, Teen Vogue, Marie Claire, and in an Instagram AD.

My most meaningful projects were the two Vogue Instagram challenges that I took part in 2020. During the early stages of the pandemic, Vogue came to Instagram and asked people to recreate their favorite Met Gala looks from home and share their creations on Instagram…
